Year 7-8 Maths and English Tutor
Hey! My name is Eliza and I am the Year 7-8 Maths and English Tutor here at FCT! I love working with students at the start of high school because I believe it is such an important time to develop a solid work ethic and to learn the foundations for senior year subjects. I graduated in 2020 with an ATAR of 97.85, and my HSC marks for Maths and English were 97 and 94 respectively. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Philosophy (Science) at The Australian National University in Canberra, which is basically just a heavily research-based science degree. I have always had a huge passion for scientific research because I love the way that creativity and science come together, and how you can work on a project that you are genuinely interested in! My current plan is to pursue a career in medical research, but that might change over the next few years! My tutoring style involves lots of discussion and explanations for the big concepts we cover, because I value understanding much higher than memorisation. Memorising the periodic table really won't help you in your science exams, but understanding how particles change states from solid to liquid will definitely help you! I spend lots of time answering questions from my students, and making sure they understand the content we are learning, as well as doing lots of practice questions to really solidify that understanding. I prepare booklets for each student that include explanations and example questions, so that they can revise the material after our session if needed. I am a fun and approachable person who loves to meet new people, so I try to make each lesson highly enjoyable for every student. Aside from study and tutoring, I play the clarinet and saxophone, field and ice hockey, and I love riding my bike around Canberra!
