Hi! My name is Melvern and I’m an English and Business Studies tutor here at FCT! I graduated in 2019 with an ATAR of 99.40 and was able to achieve a state rank in both English Advanced (6th) and Business Studies (9th) - both subjects of which I achieved a mark of 98! To provide you with a frame of reference, my HSC subjects were: English Advanced, English Extension 1 & 2, Mathematics, Mathematics Ext 1, Legal Studies and Business Studies Accelerated. I’m currently studying Psychology at the University of Sydney! Just a little bit about myself: I love reading, watching films, travelling, going on adventures, video and photo editing, and I recently purchased a pair of binoculars to go moon/ star gazing (you should try it out!)
I’ve been tutoring for a couple of years now so I can say that from experience, there truly is nothing more rewarding and fulfilling than to help someone in need of assistance in school and guide them through the volatile journey of high school life, to see them ultimately flourish with their results and attain what they set their goal on. Senior high school is indeed a stressful time but with the support of those around you, I am 100% sure that the seemingly unfathomable workload and difficulty can be decreased in the most efficient of ways, whilst also ensuring that you UNDERSTAND what you actually need to in terms of the content in order to be getting the marks that you need. I think this is particularly the case with English since 2 units of this subject will compulsorily be counted in your ATAR (there’s no escaping!) so making sure that you maximise your marks in this subject is of utmost importance. My goal with tutoring is to guide, support and academically assist the needs of my students, tailoring my teaching strategies to the often unique requirements, circumstances and objectives of my students to ensure that the work I provide, the pace I go at, and the ways in which I explain concepts are individualised.
All of the students I’ve tutored previously ranging from year 3 all the way up to year 12 have achieved such amazing things (the proudest of which is one of my students who was able to achieve a mark of 96 in HSC trials!) In essence, I love what I do, am committed to what I do, and promise that I will offer unwavering support throughout your last high schooling year; and in the words of man: “For thousands of years, people have craned their necks skyward, seeking meaning or a sense of perspective in the vast panoply of stars above us.” This essentially translates to: never stop probing, never stop inquiring for answers, let curiosity drift your soul to places you thought you could only dream of.
