Hi! My name is Lachlan Keane and I am one of the tutors here at FCT. I am the head tutor for Science Extension, Physics and Chemistry; as well as being part of the tutoring team for the range of Mathematics subjects as well. I graduated from Newcastle Grammar School in 2019 with a 98.45 ATAR and managed to achieve a 3rd State Ranking for SciX. I am currently living at Trinity College on campus down at The University of Melbourne while studying a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Physics. Having the ability to assist students enduring an extremely challenging year of their academic life, as well as a major year for their personal development, has been a major avenue of enjoyment for myself. I chose to become part of FCT for a number of reasons, however as it turns out, I have discovered many more reasons why I really enjoy working as part of the FCT team. Year 12, not even considering new syllabuses, is an extremely difficult year for each individual student for different reasons, no-one’s experience is ever the same. Having my own journey through the HSC partially accelerated in year 11 in conjunction with my additional subjects in year 12, I had an extremely unique HSC experience. This is not even considering the challenges of assisting in running a busy household, being part of a competitive sports team and maintaining a part-time job. This culmination of factors allows me to empathise with all sorts of students and provide valuable mentoring, a major aspect of my role here at FCT. Academically, I have grown to really enjoy the challenge of tailoring each lesson to each specific student. Many students often feel as though lessons in school are too bland, too ‘standard’ or not interesting enough for them to maintain any useful attention or effort. Therefore, in order to get the most out of my students academically, I pride myself in being able to personalise each lesson for each individual. By doing this and allowing for greater interest in the content of the subjects, it is extremely rewarding to see the progression as steadfast academics that the FCT students undergo throughout the year. Being able to share ideas, mentor, assist and tutor such enthusiastic and exciting students makes my role as an FCT team member completely worth it, especially when you can occasionally end up forming strong friendships throughout the year. FCT’s emphasis on the individualised focus on each and every student really allows the team here to connect to students on a personal level as well. As mentioned previously, this only adds to the usefulness and value of the advice provided on how to navigate issues that arise throughout the year. Being part of the FCT team has been one of the most rewarding roles that I have been part of and I cannot wait to continue offering fantastic assistance to fantastic students. It really does not matter whether you are topping your class, bottom of your class, somewhere in the middle or looking for some personal guidance, FCT have the mentors you need to succeed and prosper.
